Three Services, Each Focused

Brasswind offers three defined services. Each has a clear scope, a published price, and a specific type of watch problem it is suited to address.

Methodology

How Each Service Is Approached

1

Initial Assessment

The piece is examined and condition is logged. A clear description of what is found and what the service will involve is provided before any work starts.

2

Work with Your Agreement

Service begins only when you have agreed to the scope. If anything unexpected emerges mid-service, it is discussed before proceeding. There are no additions without consent.

3

Review and Return

Completed work is checked before collection or return. For assessments, the written report is reviewed for accuracy and clarity before it is handed over.

Service 01

Dial & Hand Refurbishment

A sympathetic refresh of dials and hands where conditions allow. The emphasis is on legibility and preserving the original feel of the watch — not replacing what is old with something new simply for the sake of it.

This service is appropriate for dials that have become difficult to read due to surface deterioration, hands that have lost their lacquer or developed lifting lume, or cases where a careful clean is needed to assess what can be recovered before any decisions are made.

What Is Included

  • Dial surface cleaning and stabilisation
  • Hand re-lacquering where condition permits
  • Lume spot assessment and stabilisation
  • Condition photography before and after
  • Written notes on what was found and addressed

Typical turnaround: 2–3 weeks from drop-off

Self-winding rotor mechanism

Service 02

Self-Winding Rotor Service

Inspection and service of the winding rotor and its associated parts to improve or restore winding performance. Automatic watches that wind poorly — or not at all — often have rotor system issues rather than mainspring problems.

This service focuses on the rotor, its bearing, the reversing wheels, and the winding train. It does not cover a full movement service, but for watches where the winding mechanism is the primary concern, it is the appropriate and proportionate intervention.

What Is Included

  • Rotor bearing inspection and service
  • Reverser wheel check and cleaning
  • Winding train inspection
  • Lubrication to correct specifications
  • Functional check before return

Typical turnaround: 2–3 weeks from drop-off

Service 03

Heritage Piece Assessment

A detailed written condition report and care plan for an inherited or older timepiece. This service is appropriate for watches that have come through family, have been in storage for an unknown period, or whose condition and history is simply unclear.

The assessment covers case condition, dial condition, movement condition as visible, and a general care and storage plan. There is no obligation to proceed with any repair or service work after the assessment is complete — the report is the deliverable.

What Is Included

  • Full written condition report (case, dial, movement)
  • Care and storage recommendations
  • Identification of any areas of concern
  • Photographic documentation of the piece
  • No obligation to proceed with further work

Typical turnaround: 8–10 working days from drop-off

Which Service Is Right?

Choosing Between the Three

Each service addresses a distinct type of need. This overview may help narrow things down before making contact.

Your situation Dial & Hand Rotor Service Heritage Assessment
Dial has become hard to read
Automatic winding is sluggish or unreliable
Inherited piece, condition unknown
Hands have lost lacquer or lume is lifting
Need a written report for insurance or records
Rotor spins freely but watch does not wind

Not sure which applies? A brief email describing the piece and the issue is usually enough to point in the right direction.
